Two Scaled Rivals

On a storm-ridden coast among treacherous cliffside crags, a small sheltered bay leads into a tidal cave, revered by locals who bring offerings of bound seabirds to its mouth to earn the favour of the sea and a bountiful fish harvest.

In recent weeks, the houses nearest the tidal cave have suffered mischief at the hands of crocodilian raiders, goats and chickens snatched in the night, a tool shed torn down, a child dragged from her bed.
